Surviving lockdown

Many of the friends, family and team members of Whitehaven Motor Yachts have been affected by lockdowns. Whilst we wait for a time when we can all get back together again and go cruising, here are some ideas to get you through the day.

Watched everything on Netflix? Can’t bake anymore sourdough bread? Missing your boat? Here are some ideas to keep you busy.

Tip 1: Send us your photos!

We are running a monthly competition for the best Whitehaven photos so dig out the old albums (or phone back up) and send us your best. It will be a great opportunity to reminisce as well as be rewarded for your hidden artistic talent. At the end of each month, we will announce the best of the best and send you a sample pack of the finest Whitehaven wine!

Tip 2: Plan your next trip

Plan your next epic cruise onboard your Whitehaven. There is nothing like a little wanderlust. And if you are looking for inspiration, then here are ones which others have already completed: Gold Coast to Port Douglas on Elementa, Gold Coast to Sydney on Bella Sky, Whitsunday Owners Rendezvous; and SailGP on Sydney Harbour with Koa Moana.

Or send us details of your epic Whitehaven trip and we will include it in our next newsletter.

Tip 3: Service your boat in readiness

If you’re in a state that’s in lockdown, but the restrictions don’t permit you to access your vessel, you can still arrange to have your annual servicing completed. Most of the maintenance facilities are operating and can generally arrange them to collect your vessel, complete the servicing and return it to your berth ready for use. Take on board some of Daniel’s tips and use the down time wisely to ensure you vessel is in top notch condition and ready for use as soon as lockdown finishes.

Tip 4: Go Boating!

Ok so this won’t apply to everyone however for those in NSW, the rules state that if you remain within 5klms of your house and within your own LGA then you can go boating. More details for boating in NSW. Equally in Victoria, you can boat for up to two hours a day with some stipulations. More details for boating in Victoria.

Tip 5: Upskill

DiscoverBoating.com.au is an initiative of the Australian Boating Industry Association. The ‘How-To’ section is very comprehensive and information so you can keep your skills sharp even if you can’t go boating. Find out more. For those more academically minded and with time to spare, Coursera – the world’s largest online tertiary education provider – offers a course about the world’s oceans. Delivered by the University of Barcelona, it provides a foundation knowledge of Oceanography specifically for the sailor.
