What do you get if you take four Whitehaven Motor Yachts up the Queensland coast from the Gold Coast to the Whitsundays? A once in a lifetime trip, of course.
In a year when relationships, friendships, kinship, and looking after yourself has never been more important, the team at Whitehaven knew exactly what their owners needed to escape the commotion: a rendezvous to the Whitsunday Island group.
Embarking from the Gold Coast on a day which more than suggested how glamorous spring was going to be, the group of four yachts had found a small window in border closures to safely (and legally) cross from New South Wales into Queensland to start the journey. Pretty quickly they headed north.
Excellent weather meant the crossing of the infamous Wide Bay Bar into the Sandy Straits was a dream. Once inside the lee of Fraser Island, the group had one of the most sought-after experiences. Anchored off Roney Point, a pod of whales encircled the boats. The majestic humpback whales were within reach as they swam and played amongst the Whitehaven motor yachts.
“It was the kind of day which will stay with us for life. It was extraordinary and hard to put into words the feeling of having these giant but gentle animals so close. I am so glad that the Whitehaven owners on that rendezvous had the experience. It made the trip,” stated Bruce Scott, Managing Director of Whitehaven.
The group continued north taking in Lady Musgrave Reef, The Narrows (inside of Curtis Island) and onto Australia’s own Robinson Crusoe style island, Middle Percy. A highlight of the route north is stopping into West Bay on Middle Percy to check out the boating paraphernalia at the historic hut and grab some local honey. But the Crescendo of the journey was spending time at the magnificent and our namesake Whitehaven Beach. The weather was sublime and it was the perfect place to close out the 16 day journey before our arrival into Hamilton Island.
“There were plenty of highlights yet what lingers most in the mind is the laughs, smiles and friendship. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and we hoped you enjoyed it as much as Julie and I did,” continued Bruce.
