Launch of Whitehaven 6800SY, “Chance”

100 friends and family gathered for the official launch of the custom-built Whitehaven 6800 Sport Yacht, “Chance”, at the perfectly positioned National Maritime on Darling Harbour.

The new flagship of the Whitehaven fleet, “Chance” was inspired by the Whitehaven 6000 and its level of customisation and exquisite finish.

Originally conceived as a 7000 Sport Yacht, the design was reworked to a 68-foot model to fit the owners’ berth in Sydney. The 6800SY represents a full circle in the evolution of the Whitehaven brand.

It embodies innumerable personalised features which make it next generation and worthy of leading the Whitehaven fleet into the next phase of evolution.

A product of her owners’ dreams, “Chance” was conceived as the ultimate entertainer for an extended family. Whilst the main custom change of this vessel was to shorten her hull length by 3 feet to fit within her marina berth, the mandate was to accomplish this without any obvious compromise the key recreational spaces of the foredeck, saloon and cockpit areas of her original 70 foot design. So Whitehaven set about redesigning the lower accommodation which saw the removal of the third guests bathroom and a reduction in size of the of the once large butlers panty to create a decent sized utility room.

Some of the other more prominent custom features include the redesign of the spacious saloon layout to incorporate an impressive full beam galley and breakfast bar, a full wet bar service area with custom-crafted glass cabinet built to store the owners’ stemware and a dinette that converts to a lounge and forward facing seat area opposite the main helm station. Added to the twin helm station is a bespoke dash design that’s more like an aircraft than a boat and lighting throughout that will create any mood required. The saloon run seamlessly into the cockpit with another outside bar area and large alfresco dining space that comfortably seats a party of 10 people.

From there the design brief was to reinstate the lost guest bathroom from the lower accommodation into the rear of the vessel. The outcome was a convenient and practical located day head that’s accessed through the transom door to the airconditioned engine room from the oversized swim platform, creating a full height bathroom which can be accessed without ever needing to enter the interior of the boat. There can also be some serious tunes pumped through “Chance” with a one-of-a-kind wireless Fusion sound system with 16 speakers inside and on deck and two sub woofers, all controlled remotely. The outcome has seen the creation of a vessel that fits the owners brief to be the ultimate entertainer across three generations of family.

Over winter, her ecstatic owners plan to explore Sydney waterways, before heading to Port Stephens, the Gold Coast and eventually, the Whitsundays.

Congratulations and “Bonne Chance” to our newest Whitehaven family members.

The new Whitehaven 6800SY “Chance” will be on show at the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 19 to 22 May, with inspection by appointment.
